The Web Weaver waits patiently, letting the ocean weave its web before quietly collecting whatever wanders inside.

the story

Unlike other hunters, the Web Weaver never gives chase. It unfurls dozens of impossibly thin, web-like tentacles that drift with the ocean current, stretching across open water like invisible fishing lines.

At the centre of its translucent body, a glowing orb releases tiny bioluminescent spores. Curious creatures follow the drifting lights without realising they're entering the Web Weaver's living web. Once enough tentacles detect movement, they slowly tighten, guiding prey toward the creature's hidden mouth beneath its bell.

Most victims never realise they were trapped.

Behind the Artwork

I imagined Web Weaver as a mix between a jellyfish and a spider web. I put a glowing orb inside its body to make people wonder what it does, and I added glowing tips to its web-like tentacles so it can find or attract its food. I made the head flat and translucent because I wanted it to look a bit like a UFO floating through the deep ocean. I wanted this creature to feel mysterious, like nobody really knows what it is.
