The Story

Far below the surface, tiny lights drift silently through the darkness.

Known as Lantern Larva, these gentle creatures spend the early stages of their lives floating with the ocean currents, feeding on microscopic sea life. Their soft glow helps them stay together in the endless darkness while warning larger predators that they may not be worth chasing.

No one knows what a fully grown Lantern Larva becomes. Some researchers believe they transform into one of the abyss's largest creatures, while others think they disappear into the darkness forever.

Behind the Artwork

I imagined Lantern Larva as a mix between a jellyfish and a squid. I gave it glowing parts to make it look mysterious and armour plates to make it look tougher. I called it a larva because I imagine it's still a baby, and one day it will grow into something much bigger and even creepier.
