The Story

Far below the reach of sunlight, where the ocean falls silent, The Deep One patiently waits.

Rather than chasing its prey, it relies on a glowing lure that attracts curious creatures through the darkness. Drawn toward the mysterious light, they unknowingly swim within reach of its enormous jaws.

Few have ever witnessed a Deep One in the wild, and even fewer have escaped to describe the encounter. Some researchers believe it has remained hidden in the abyss for centuries, silently watching the darkness while the world above carries on, unaware of its existence.

Behind the Artwork

I got the inspiration for Deep One from the anglerfish because I liked how it uses a glowing light. I also got ideas from scary movies where the teeth aren't bright white—they're more yellow and creepy. I first drew Deep One live at a Supanova convention, then I recreated it in Procreate so I could add more details and colours. I wanted it to look slimy, eel-like, and like something you definitely wouldn't want to meet in the deep ocean.
